For Engie Electrabel at the Doel site, we developed three drum shields for the safe in-plant transport of 400-litre drums, which are filled with medium-activity components during the dismantling of reactor internals. The scope of work included concept development, design, structural analysis, as well as manufacturing and commissioning of the shielding systems.
The transport solutions were specifically tailored to the requirements of the nuclear environment. Particular focus was placed on mechanical stability, radiation protection effectiveness, and safe handling under operating conditions. The drum shields were designed to ensure compatibility with existing equipment such as shielding bells and auxiliary transport devices used for filling the drums.
The project was successfully implemented in close cooperation with the customer and meets all relevant safety regulations.
