The KKP Nuclear Power Plant is planning to clear a drum storage facility of Unit 2 in the next few years by placing the approx. 1,000 200-l drums stored there in KONRAD repository containers. If possible, the loading process should be carried out by remote handling, due to dose rates of the waste drums being as high as 100 mSv/h. Furthermore, characterisation of waste products and drums is necessary.
Dornier Nuclear Services prepared an arrangement and technology plan for the removal of the drums from the drum storage facility and identified characterisation and product control measures, processing times, arrangement and handling of the repository container in several variants, including a matrix for comparison of variants.
