Comparison of variants for the dismantling of reactor building and special water treatment facility

The RheinsbergNuclear Power Plant was planned in the 1950s and commissioned in 1966; the plant was finally shut down in 1990. At the beginning of the nineties, the application for the decommissioning and dismantling of the Rheinsbergnuclear power plant was compiled, a cost and time estimate for all necessary work was drawn up and agreed with the shareholder. In April 1995, the competent nuclear supervisory authority of the German federal state of Brandenburg granted the licence for the decommissioning and partial dismantling of the Rheinsbergnuclear power plant. Dornier Nuclear Services was commissioned to provide engineering services for the preparation of a comparison of variants for the dismantling of the reactor building and the special water treatment facility under controlled area conditions.

Our services at a glance:

  • Gathering and reviewing of existing as-built documentation
  • Upgrading of a pre-existing dismantling concept variant
  • Working out three further variants, on a preliminary design level of detail
  • Preparation of a feasibility study for each of the variants, taking into account the boundary conditions of building integrity, feasibility, safety and expenditure
  • Development of a comparison matrix for the evaluation of the upgraded variant and the three new variants
